Ezekiel 24

Ezekiel Chapter 24 KJV

By the parable of a boiling pot is shewed the destruction of Jerusalem, the bloody city. 15Ezekiel is forbidden to mourn for the death of his wife, 19to denote that the calamity of the Jews shall be beyond all expressions of sorrow. 25In that day of affliction the prophet's mouth shall be opened to their conviction.
Again in the 1ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Son of man, 1write thee the name of the day, even of 2this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.
And 1utter a parable unto the 2rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Set on a 3pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:
1Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.
Take the choice of the flock, 1and aburn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.
¶ Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the 1bloody city, to the pot whose 2scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! 3bring it out piece by piece; let 4no lot fall upon it.
For 1her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;
That 1it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; 2I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.
Therefore thus saith the Lord God; 1Woe to the bloody city! I will even 2make the pile for fire great.
1Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and 2spice it well, and let the bones be burned.
Then 1set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that 2the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.
She 1hath wearied herself 2with lies, and 3her great scum went not forth out of her: 4her scum shall be in the fire.
In 1thy filthiness is lewdness: 2because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, 3thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, 4till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.
I 1the Lord have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, 2neither will I spare, neither will I repent; 3according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord God.
¶ Also the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Son of man, behold, 1I take away from thee 2the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: 3yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears arun down.
aForbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, 1bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put 2on thy shoes upon thy feet, and 3cover not thy blips, and eat not the bread of men.
So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at 1even my wife 2died; and I did in 3the morning 4as I was commanded.
¶ And the people said unto me, 1Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?
Then I answered them, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I 1will profane my sanctuary, the 2excellency of your strength, the 3desire of your eyes, and athat which your soul pitieth; and 4your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall 5fall by the sword.
And 1ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor 2eat the bread of men.
And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall 1pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.
Thus Ezekiel is unto you 1a sign: 2according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and 3when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them 1their strength, the 2joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and athat whereupon they set their minds, 3their sons and their daughters,
that 1he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?
In that day 1shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and 2be no more dumb: and thou shalt be 3a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
