Lamentations 1

Lamentations Chapter 1 KJV

The miserable estate of Jerusalem by reason of her sin: 12she bemoaneth her afflictions: 18she confesseth God's judgments to be just, and prayeth against her insulting enemies.
How doth the city 1sit solitary, that 2was full of people! how is she become 3as a widow! she that was 4great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become 5tributary!
She 1weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: 2among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
1Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and abecause of great servitude: 2she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all 3her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
The 1ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: 2her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.
1Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for 2the Lord hath afflicted her 3for the multitude of her transgressions: 4her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
And from the daughter of Zion 1all her beauty is departed: 2her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
Jerusalem 1remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her apleasant things that she had in the days of old, when 2her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries 3saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.
1Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; 2therefore she ais removed: all that honoured her despise her, because 3they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
1Her filthiness is in her skirts; she 2remembereth not her last end; therefore she 3came down wonderfully: 4she had no comforter. O Lord, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath 5magnified himself.
The adversary 1hath spread out his hand upon all her apleasant things: for she hath seen that 2the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that 3they should not enter into thy congregation.
All her people sigh, 1they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat ato relieve the soul: 2see, O Lord, and consider; for I am 3become vile.
aIs it nothing to you, all ye that pass bby? behold, and see if 1there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
From 1above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: 2he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: 3he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.
1The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are 2wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord 3hath delivered me into their hands, from whom 4I am not able to rise up.
The Lord 1hath trodden under foot all 2my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the Lord 3hath trodden the avirgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.
For 1these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should arelieve my soul is far from me: 2my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.
1Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: 2the Lord hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his adversaries should be 3round about him: Jerusalem is 4as a menstruous woman among them.
¶ The 1Lord is righteous; for 2I have rebelled against his acommandment: 3hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: 4my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
1I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: 2my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
1Behold, O Lord; for I am in distress: 2my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; 3for I have 4grievously rebelled: 5abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
1They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: 2all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they 3are glad that thou hast done it: 4thou wilt bring the day that thou hast acalled, and they shall be 5like unto me.
1Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as 2thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for 3my sighs are many, and my heart is faint.
