1 Timothy Chapter 1 KJV

1The salutation. 3Timothy is put in mind of the charge before given him by Paul. 5The end of the commandment is charity, from which some had turned aside to teach the law which they understood not. 8The scope of the law was to condemn wickedness, which is the design of the gospel also. 12Paul blesseth God for calling him to the ministry notwithstanding his great demerit, whereby all penitent sinners that believe are assured of mercy through Christ. 18He urgeth Timothy to a due discharge of his trust, warning him of some who had deserted the truth, of whom Hymenaeus and Alexander had been delivered by him unto Satan.
1 1PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God 2our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, 3which is our hope;
2 Unto 1Timothy, my own son in the faith: 2Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, 1when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
4 1Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
5 1Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of 2a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
6 From 1which some 2having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7 1Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8 But we know that 1the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
9 Knowing this, that 1the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the 2lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and 3profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10 1For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for 2perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is 3contrary to sound doctrine;
11 According to the 1glorious gospel of the 2blessed God, 3which was committed to my trust.
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, 1who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
13 Who 1was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but 2I obtained mercy, because 3I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was 1exceeding abundant with 2faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15 This is a 1faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that 2Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; 3of whom I am chief.
16 Howbeit for this cause 1I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, 2for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
17 1Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
18 1This charge I commit unto thee, 2son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
19 1Holding faith, and 2a good conscience; 3which some having put away concerning faith 4have made shipwreck;
20 1Of whom is Hymenand Alexander; whom I have 2delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
