Timothy 5

Timothy Chapter 5 KJV

Directions to Timothy how to admonish persons of different conditions. 3Concerning widows. 17Elders, if they do well, are to be doubly honoured; 19and are not to be censured without full proof; and then openly and impartially. 22A caution not to ordain any one precipitately. 23Advice respecting Timothy's health. 24Some men's characters are more easily discerned than those of others.
1REBUKE not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, 1with all purity.
1Honour widows that are widows indeed.
But if any widow have children or nephews, 1let them learn first to shew apiety at home, and to requite their parents: 2for that is good and acceptable before God.
1Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers 2night and day.
1But she that liveth ain pleasure is dead while she liveth.
1And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
1But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his aown house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than 2an infidel.
Let not a widow be ataken into the number under threescore years old, 1having been the wife of one man,
1Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to 1wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
1Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
And withal 1they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but 2tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
1I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, 2guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary ato speak reproachfully.
For some 1are already turned aside after Satan.
1If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are 2widows indeed.
1Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of 2double honour, especially they who 3labour in the word and doctrine.
For the scripture saith, 1Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
Against 1an elder receive not an accusation, but abefore 2two or three witnesses.
Them that sin 1rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
1I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the 2elect angels, that thou observe these things 3awithout preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
1Lay hands 2suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.
1Drink no longer water, but use 2a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
1Some men's sins are open beforehand, 2going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
1Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
