2 Peter 1

2 Peter Chapter 1 KJV

1The apostle, saluting the Christians, admonisheth them of the gifts and promises of the gospel, and their tendency to promote a godly life. 5He exhorteth them to add to their faith such virtues as would make it fruitful; 10and thereby to make their calling and election sure. 12He is careful to remind them hereof, knowing his dissolution to be near; 16and urgeth the evidence of what he had seen and heard in the holy mount in confirmation of Christ's second coming, together with the word of prophecy, which he recommendeth to their regard.
1 1aSIMON Peter, a 2servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained 3like precious faith with us 4through the righteousness of bGod and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 1Grace and peace be multiplied unto you 2through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us 1all things that pertain unto life and 2godliness, 3through the knowledge of him that hath 4called us ato glory and virtue:
4 Whereby 1are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that 2by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 And beside this, 1giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue 2knowledge;
6 1And to knowledge 2temperance; and to temperance 3patience; and to patience 4godliness;
7 1And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness 2charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, 1they make you that ye shall neither be abarren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But he that lacketh these things is 1blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that 2he was purged from his old sins.
10 Wherefore the rather, 1brethren, give 2diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, 3ye shall never fall:
11 1For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly 2into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12 Wherefore 1I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though 2ye know them, and be 3established in the present truth.
13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in 1this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
14 1Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15 Moreover 1I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16 1For we have not followed cunningly devised 2fables, when we made known unto you the power and 3coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but 4were 5eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from 1God the Father 2honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven 1we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 1We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, 2as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that 1no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For 1the prophecy came not ain old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
