Ephesians 5

Ephesians Chapter 5 KJV

Paul exhorteth to the imitation of God, and of the love of Christ: 3to avoid fornication and all uncleanness, 5which exclude from the kingdom of God, and draw down God's wrath on unbelievers: 7with whose works of darkness Christians, that have better light to inform and influence them, should have no fellowship: 15to walk with prudence and circumspection; 18not to drink wine to excess, but to be filled with the Spirit, singing psalms, and giving thanks to God; 21and being in due subordination to one another. 22The duty of wives toward their husbands, 25and of husbands toward their wives, enforced by the example of Christ and his church.
1BE ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
And 1walk in love, as Christ also 2hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
But 1fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
1Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
For this ye know, 1that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, 2hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
1Let no man deceive you with vain words: for 2because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of adisobedience.
1Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
1For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: 2walk as children of light:
(for 1the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
1Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
And 1have no fellowship with the 2unfruitful works of darkness, but 3rather reprove them.
For 1it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
But all things that are areproved 1are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Wherefore ahe saith, 1Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
See then that ye 1walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
1Redeeming the time, 2because the days are evil.
Wherefore 1be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
And 1be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be 2filled with the Spirit;
1Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
1Giving thanks always for all things unto 2God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
1Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
1Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, 2as unto the Lord.
For 1the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is 2the head of the church: and he is 3the saviour of the 4body.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, 1so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
1Husbands, love your wives, even as 2Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That 1he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water 2by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, 1not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
So ought men to love their wives as 1their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
For we are 1members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
1For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
This is a great mystery: but I speak 1concerning Christ and the church.
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular 1so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she 2reverence her husband.
