Titus Chapter 1 KJV

The salutation. 5For what purpose Titus was left in Crete. 6How they should be qualified who are ordained to the ministry. 10The mouths of evil teachers must be stopped. 12The bad character of the Cretians.
1PAUL, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to 2the faith of 3God's elect, and the 4acknowledging of the truth 5which is after godliness;
1aIn hope of eternal life, which God, that 2cannot lie, promised 3before the world began;
1But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is 2committed unto me according to the commandment of 3God our Saviour;
To 1Titus, 2mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, 3from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
For this cause left I thee in 1Crete, 2that thou shouldest set in order the things that are awanting, and ordain 3elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
1If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
For 1a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; 2not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
But 1a lover of hospitality, a lover of agood men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
1Holding fast the faithful word aas he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
1For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially 2they of the circumcision:
1Whose mouths must be stopped, 2who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, 3for filthy lucre's sake.
One of themselves, even a 1prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
This witness is true. Wherefore 1rebuke them sharply, that they may be 2sound in the faith;
1Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
1Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their 2mind and conscience is defiled.
1They profess that they know God; but in works they 2deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work areprobate.
