Thessalonians 5

Thessalonians Chapter 5 KJV

The apostle proceedeth to shew that Christ's coming will be sudden, exhorting Christians to watch and be sober, so as not to be taken by surprise. 12He beseecheth them to respect their spiritual guides; 14and giveth various other precepts; 23concluding with a prayer and salutations.
But 1of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that 1the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that 2that day should overtake you as a thief.
1Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
1Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
For 1they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, 1putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, 2the hope of salvation.
For 1God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
1Wherefore acomfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
And we beseech you, brethren, 1to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
And 1to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And 2be at peace among yourselves.
Now we aexhort you, brethren, 1warn them that are bunruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, 2be patient toward all men.
1See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but 2ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
1Rejoice evermore.
1Pray without ceasing.
1In every thing give thanks: for this is 2the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Quench not the Spirit.
1Despise not prophesyings.
1Prove all things; 2hold fast that which is good.
1Abstain from all appearance of evil.
And the very 1God of peace 2sanctify you wholly; and I pray God 3your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless 4unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
1Brethren, pray for us.
1Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
I acharge you by the Lord 1that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
1The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
