Timothy 3

Timothy Chapter 3 KJV

The office of a bishop is to be esteemed a good work. 2The qualifications requisite in a bishop, 8and in deacons. 14Why Paul wrote these instructions to Timothy. 16The important truths of the Christian revelation.
This 1is a true saying, If a man desire 2the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, aof good behaviour, 2given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1aNot given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
1One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all 2gravity;
(for if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of 1the church of God?)
Not aa novice, lest 1being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
Moreover 1he must have a good report of 2them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the 3snare of the devil.
Likewise must 1the deacons be 2grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
1Holding the mystery of the faith in 2a pure conscience.
And let these also 1first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
1Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
Let the deacons be 1the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
1For they that have aused the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and 2great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
These things write I unto thee, 1hoping to come unto thee shortly:
But if I tarry long, 1that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in 2the house of God, which is the church 3of the living God, the 4pillar and aground of 5the truth.
And without controversy great is the 1mystery of godliness: God was 2manifest in the flesh, 3justified in the Spirit, 4seen of angels, 5preached unto the Gentiles, 6believed on in the world, 7received up into glory.
