Jeremiah 31

Jeremiah Chapter 31 KJV

The restoration of Israel. 15Rachel mourning is comforted. 18Ephraim repenting is received into favour. 22The miracle of Christ's birth promised as a means of blessing to Judah. 27God's care for his church. 29Every man shall answer for his own sin only. 31The new covenant with Israel. 35The stability of God's favour to them. 38The extent of the city when it shall be built.
At the 1same time, saith the Lord, will I be the God 2of all the families of Israel, and 3they shall be my people.
Thus saith the Lord, 1The people which were left of the sword 2found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when 3I went to cause him to rest.
The Lord hath appeared aof old unto me, saying, Yea, 1I have loved thee with 2an everlasting love: therefore bwith lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Again 1I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned 2with thy atabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
Thou 1shalt yet plant vines upon 2the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall aeat them as common things.
For there shall be 1a day, that 2the watchmen 3upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, 4Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the Lord our God.
For thus saith the Lord; 1Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, 2O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.
Behold, 1I will bring them 2from the north country, and 3gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child 4and her that travaileth with child together: 5a great company shall return thither.
They shall come 1with weeping, and 2with asupplications will I lead them: 3I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in 4a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: 5for I am a father to Israel, and 6Ephraim is 7my firstborn.
¶ Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it 1in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will 2gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.
For the Lord 1hath redeemed Jacob, and 2ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.
Therefore 1they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together 2to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and 3their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they 4shall not sorrow any more at all.
Then 1shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for 2I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
And 1I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.
¶ Thus saith the Lord; 1A voice was heard in 2Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because 3they were not.
Thus saith the Lord; 1Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for 2thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and 3they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
And 1there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that 2thy children shall come again to their own border.
¶ I have surely heard 1Ephraim 2bemoaning himself thus; 3Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: 4turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the Lord my God.
Surely 1after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, 2because I did bear the reproach of my youth.
is 1Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for 2since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels aare troubled for him; 3I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the Lord.
1Set thee up 2waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: 3turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
1How long wilt thou go about, O thou 2backsliding daughter? for the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, 3A woman shall compass a man.
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; 1As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The Lord bless thee, O habitation of justice, and 2mountain of holiness.
And 1there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all the cities thereof together, husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks.
For 1I have satiated the weary soul, and 2I have replenished every sorrowful soul.
Upon this 1I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.
¶ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I 1will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with 2the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
And it shall come to pass, that like as I have 1watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; 2so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord.
In those days they shall say no more, 1The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.
But 1every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
¶ Behold, the 1days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
1Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that 2I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant 3they brake, aalthough I was 4an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
But 1this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, 2I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; 3and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, 1Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, 2from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for 3I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
¶ Thus saith the Lord, 1which giveth the sun for a light by day, and 2the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which 3divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; 4The Lord of hosts is his name:
If 1those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
Thus saith the Lord; 1If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the Lord.
¶ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 1that the city shall be built to the Lord 2from the tower of Hananeel unto 3the gate of the corner.
And 1the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to 2Goath.
And the whole 1valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the 2horse gate toward the east, shall be 3holy unto the Lord; 4it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
