1Job, complaining of the repeated cruelty of his friends, sheweth that he hath misery enough to gratify it: 21he calleth for pity; 23professeth his belief of a future resurrection; 28and warneth his friends not to persecute him.

1Then Job answered and said,
2How 1long will ye 2vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
3These 1ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye amake yourselves strange to me.
4And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth 1with myself.
5If indeed ye will 1magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
6Know now that 1God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
7Behold, 1I cry out of awrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
8He 1hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
9He hath 1stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
10He hath destroyed me 1on every side, and I am gone: and mine 2hope hath he removed like a tree.
11He hath also 1kindled his wrath against me, and he 2counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
12His 1troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.
13He hath 1put my brethren far from me, and mine 2acquaintance are verily estranged from me.
14My 1kinsfolk have failed, and my 2familiar friends have forgotten me.
15They that 1dwell in mine house, and my maids, 2count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
16I called my servant, and 1he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
171My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the 2children's sake of amine own body.
18Yea, ayoung children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
19All 1amy inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
20My 1bone cleaveth to my skin aand to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
21Have 1pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched 2me.
22Why do ye 1persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
23aOh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
24That they were graven with an 1iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
25For 1I know that my 2redeemer liveth, and that he shall 3stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26aAnd though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet 1in my flesh shall I see God:
27Whom I shall see 1for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not aanother; bthough my reins be consumed cwithin me.
28But ye should say, Why 1persecute we him, aseeing the root of the matter is found in me?
29Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, 1that ye may know there is a judgment.
