Psalms 49

Psalm 49 KJV

The Psalmist calleth upon all the earth to join him in his meditations: 5he sheweth the vanity of trusting in worldly wealth.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm afor the sons of Korah.
Hear 1this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
Both 1low and high, rich and poor, together.
My 1mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
I 1will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
Wherefore 1should I fear in the days of evil, when the 2iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
They that 1trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
1None of them 2can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
(for 1the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
That 1he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
For he seeth that 1wise men die, likewise the fool and the 2brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Their 1inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places ato all generations; they 2call their lands after their own names.
Nevertheless 1man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
This their way is their folly: yet their posterity aapprove their sayings. Selah.
Like 1sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and 2the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their abeauty shall consume in bthe grave from their dwelling.
But God 1will redeem my soul from the apower of bthe grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
Be 1not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the 2glory of his house is increased;
For 1when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
Though awhile he lived he 1blessed his soul: and men 2will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
aHe shall go 1to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
1Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
