1Amidst the judgments of the neighbouring nations God will defend his church. 9Zion is exhorted to rejoice for the coming of Christ and his peaceable kingdom. 12God's promises of victory and defence.
1The 1burden of the word of the Lord2in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: 3when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the Lord.
2And 1Hamath also shall border thereby; 2Tyrus, and 3Zidon, though it be 4very wise.
3And Tyrus did build herself 1a strong hold, 2and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.
41Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.
51Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; 2Gaza also shall see it, and be 3very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
6And 1a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and 2I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
7And 1I will take away his ablood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but 2he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as 3a Jebusite.
8And 1I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of 2him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and 3no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now 4have I seen with mine eyes.
9¶ 1Rejoice greatly, O 2daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, 3thy King cometh unto thee: 4he is just, and ahaving salvation; lowly, and 5riding upon an ass, 6and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
10And 1I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and 2he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.
11As for thee also, aby the blood of thy covenant 1I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.
12¶ 1Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render 2double unto thee;
13When 1I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up thy sons, O Zion, against 2thy sons, O Greece, and 3made thee as the sword of a mighty man.
14And 1the Lord shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and 2the Lord God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.
15The Lord of hosts shall 1defend them; and they 2shall devour, and asubdue with sling stones; and they 3shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they bshall be filled like 4bowls, and as the 5corners of the altar.
16And the 1Lord their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be 2as the stones of a crown, lifted up 3as an ensign upon his land.
17For 1how great is his goodness, and 2how great is his beauty! 3corn shall make the young men acheerful, and new wine the maids.
